HIKING

Each academic year, the Sports Service organises several hikes in natural environments in our province so as to promote sports and activities in nature.

OBJECTIVES

  • To know the network of short-distance and long-distance trails in our province
  • To enjoy nature by finding out about the native fauna and flora
  • To go hiking with guides and people from the university

1st - VÍA VERDE DEL RÍO SERPIS (RIVER SERPIS GREENWAY)

Date: Sunday, 19 Novembre 2017

Place: Lorcha

Difficulty: low (a torch is necessary for the tunnels)

Length: 20 km and 5 hours

Gradient: 160 m

Description: linear trail that will start from the platform of the old railway station. The trip goes over the abandoned railway, without any pronounced gradient. It is a long track but, as it is linear too, it is possible to move the return ahead if necessary. Participants will also be able to see Lorcha's templar castle

2nd - CIMA DEL BENICADELL (BENICADELL SUMMIT)

Date: Sunday, 21 January 2018

Place: Beniatjar (Valencia)

Difficulty: medium - high

Length: 14 km and 5.5 hours

Gradient: 700 m

Description: part-circular and part-linear walk that will start from the village of Beniatjar. Caution should be used during the final stage, just before reaching the trig point at the top (1,104 m), while persons who are afraid of heights should skip this stretch. We will tell you a viral story about this summit

3rd - CIMA DEL DESPEÑADOR (DESPEÑADOR SUMMIT)

Date: Sunday, 11 February 2018

Place: Castalla (Xorret del Catí Hotel)

Difficulty: medium - high

Length: 13 km and 5.5 hours

Gradient: 800 m

Description: circular walk that will start from the Xorret del Catí Hotel car park. The walking itinerary ascends to the Despeñador's summit (1,261 m) through the mountain pass and goes all over the range of Sierra del Fraile down to a reservoir in Petrer. We will finnally return along the Badallet's ravine. Participants will be able to see where is the 'via ferrata', a fixed-aid climbing route

4th - CIMA DE PLANS (PLANS SUMMIT)

Date: Sunday, 11 March 2018

Place: Jijona (Carrasqueta mountain pass)

Difficulty: medium

Length: 11 km and 5 hours

Gradient: 450 m

Description: linear route that will start from the mountain pass of La Carrasqueta. The trip's itinerary is to climb up the Plans' summit (1.333 m) and, then, go down to Benifallim mountain pass by going through Rentonar's 'pozo nevero', a sort of ancient ice box built of stone. We will tell you the secret of this unique construction

5t - COVA TALLADA

Date: Sunday, 6 May 2018

Place: Xàbia

Difficulty: medium - low

Length: 6 km and 4 hours

Gradient: 200 m

Description: circular route. The cave named as 'Cova Tallada' is placed on Cape San Antonio, and belongs to Montgó's natural reserve, which has other caves next to the shore between the cliffs as well as a lighthouse at the cape's end among its attractions. The most well-known and visited of these caves is the Cova Tallada

REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT

  • PARTICIPANTS
    • All members of the UA community can take part: students , service and  administration  staff, research and  academic staff and collaboration grantees; too those who belong to UA Alumni (they previously must identify themselves at the Sports Service)
    • Each participant described above can register a non-university companion older than 14 (together with their father, mother or legal tutor if under 18).
    • During the last week of registration, provided that there are still vacancies, any person older than 14 (together with their father, mother or legal tutor if under 18), university or non-university members, can register.
  • FEE
    • The fee for each trail is:
      • €12 per person (UA members and UA Alumni)
      • €17 per person (others)
  • REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT METHOD
    • Via the INTERNET (credit or debit card) - (only UA members):
    • At the SPORTS PAVILION (in cash or by debit or credit card):
      • Virtual POS (machine at the entrance). From Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. If you are not registered in our database, will have to request it personally at the Registration Office by presenting identity document (identity card, passport...)
  • DEADLINES
    • 1 st route: from 19 Oct 2017 to 16 Nov 2017
    • 2 nd  route: from 21 Dec 2017 to 18 Jan 2018
    • 3 rd  route: from 11 Jan 2018 to 08 Feb 2018
    • 4 th  route: from 11 Feb 2018 to 08 Mar 2018
    • 5 th  route: from 6 Apr 2018 to 3 May 2018
  • No. OF PLACES: 51 (by registration order)
  • DOCUMENTATION: University card (TIU), ID card, passport, driving licence...

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The Sports Management reserves the right to cancel any of the routes in case of force majeure without prior notice.

The registration price includes journeys as well as health insurance.

JOURNEY

RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Take a lightweight rucksack with a snack and water in abundance. Participants will have a mid-morning snack during the routes and have lunch at home
  • Use comfortable, warm and waterproof clothing, mountain footwear, a cap and sunscreen
  • Trekking poles are recommended
